Pond Dredging & Cleanout in Central Illinois

A pond fills in. That's just what they do. Sediment, leaves, runoff, and time turn a clear pond into a shallow muck pit. Dredging brings it back.

Brohez Trucking dredges ponds across central Illinois — farm ponds that have lost half their depth, livestock ponds choked with muck, recreation ponds that won't hold fish anymore, and retention ponds that have stopped doing their job.

We work the bank with the Komatsu PC150LC and a long reach when the pond is full, or we work from inside the dry basin when it's drawn down. We can spread the spoils on-site as topsoil or stockpile them for you to use later. Most ponds get a second life with one good dredge.

If your pond won't hold water, we look at the cause — compromised clay seal, root channels, animal burrows — and rebuild the failed section. We're straight about whether dredging will solve your problem or whether something bigger is going on.

Our Pond Dredging Process

Drained or full, big or small — here's how we approach a pond job.

STEP 01

On-Site Assessment

We come look at the pond, check depth and muck volume, talk through what you want — restored, expanded, or just cleaned out. Free estimate.

STEP 02

Drawdown (When Needed)

For most jobs we draw the pond down or drain it. We can help with siphons, pumping, or running through the overflow if there is one.

STEP 03

Muck Removal

We work the basin with the Komatsu — pulling out muck, sediment, and silt. We follow the pond's original profile or deepen it where the design calls for.

STEP 04

Spoils Handling

Muck spreads on-site as topsoil or stockpiles for later use. If the spoils need to leave, we haul them off.

STEP 05

Bank & Seal Repair

If banks are eroded or the seal is compromised, we rebuild with the right clay material and re-shape for stable, holding banks.

STEP 06

Refill & Walkthrough

We let it refill on its own or assist if needed. We walk the finished pond with you and confirm everything looks right.

Every Kind Of Pond

From half-acre stock ponds to multi-acre rec ponds.

Muck & Sediment Removal

The most common job — pulling out the muck that's accumulated over years and restoring real water depth.

Pond Restoration

Bringing a neglected pond back to working order — depth, banks, seal, and overflow all addressed in one job.

Pond Expansion

Making an existing pond bigger or deeper. More water capacity, better fish habitat, more recreation use.

Livestock Ponds

Cattle and stock ponds dredged and re-shaped for clean water access without bank erosion.

Recreation Ponds

Fishing and swimming ponds restored to depth, with cleared bottoms and proper banks.

Retention Ponds

Stormwater and detention ponds cleaned out so they hold and release water the way they were designed to.

Leak Repair

Diagnosing why a pond won't hold water and rebuilding the failed seal with the right clay material.

New Pond Excavation

Digging new ponds from scratch — siting, depth, dam, overflow, and clay seal all done right the first time.

Pond Dredging FAQs

How much does pond dredging cost?

Depends on size, depth, muck volume, what happens to the spoils, and access. Free on-site estimate with a straight number. Call (217) 809-0779.

Do I need to drain my pond first?

Most jobs work best with the pond drawn down or fully drained — it gives us a clean working surface and dries the muck. We'll tell you what's needed.

What time of year is best?

Late summer through fall is usually ideal in central Illinois — lower water, drier muck, firmer ground for equipment. Winter works too if it's dry.

What do you do with the muck?

It dries into excellent topsoil. We typically spread it on-site in low spots or fields, or stockpile it. Hauling off is an option for an added cost.

Can you fix a pond that won't hold water?

Often yes. Leaks usually come from a compromised clay seal, roots, or burrows. We diagnose and rebuild the failed section.

Can you expand an existing pond?

Yes. We make ponds bigger and deeper — more capacity, better fish habitat, fewer summer water problems.

What areas do you serve?
